2006 Season - Prizegiving Trophies


The 2006 Prizegiving function was held at the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville, Wellington on Saturday 16th September (from 7pm).
The Club Patron, Hon. Peter Dunne MP, attended the function and handed over the main club awards.
Also in attendance was the new Capital Soccer General Manager, Keith Palmer.
The function was conducted by Club President, Grant Shields.

*Note: The Womens Division 2/Division 4B team (for 2006) were the Division 2 team (in 2005). In the 2006 season they started in Division 2 but were transferred to Division 4B from 4th May. The trophies presented to this team in 2006 are those awarded in 2005.

Note: Ray Hickling Trophy has not been awarded since the end of the 2003 season (when the Mens Capital 6 team folded).

Obituary (August 2006) - Kathleen Kelly, the wife of the late Pat Kelly and mother of long-time club member Therese Lloyd and father-in-law of club life member Colin Lloyd.
(Pat Kelly was a past chairman of Newlands Soccer Club and the first chairman of the Wellington Womens Soccer Association. The Kelly Cup, played for by women club teams in Wellington since 1973, is named after Pat.)

Obituary (September 2006) - Ron Mullis, the father of past Committee member Bill Mullis (of the Men's Capital 11 team) passed away last Wednesday 13th September 2006.

Community Award (August 2005) made to life member Colin Lloyd. Presentation at the North Wellington Volunteer Awards (as for life member Don Stone in 2004) made to Colin Lloyd by local MP (and club patron) Peter Dunne. Recognition of Colin's efforts in the club administration over many years.

Life Members (update)
- Don & Dulcie Stone, unable to attend games this season but remain keen followers of the Men's Premier team performance. They reside in Tawa.
- Jimmy Herd, who has had both legs amputated over the past year, has also been unable to attend games this season but keeps informed of the club's progress.

Individual & Team achievements in 2006. Acknowledgements Golf Day - Committee member Michael O'Connor (Mens Capital 4) is organising this event. It is scheduled for Friday 3rd November 2006 at Wainuiomata Golf Club. Further details to be advised.

Annual General Meeting - due to be held at the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip Street, Johnsonville on Wednesday 8th November 2006 at 7.00pm. Financial accounts, season reports from the Club President and Premier team coaches and Club General Business will be on the agenda. Discussion of a joint-club & Council proposal on relocation of clubroom facility (on Alex Moore Park). A new Committee for the 2007 season will also be elected. All club members urged to attend.

'State of Origin' presentation - Social club game was played on Saturday 9th September 2006 at Alex Moore Park with the shield presented by the event founder (club member Craig Hopkins) to the winning captain Kevin Chafe from 'Country' team. ('Town' 2 'Country' 4)


The Clubrooms were partially decorated courtesy of Gavin Underhill (and the New Zealand Ballet company). The dress theme for the function was 'Hawaiian night'.
Attendance during the evening was around 110 (88 in 2005) people.
