2005 Season - Prizegiving Trophies


The 2005 Prizegiving function were held at the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville on Saturday 17th September.
The Club Patron, Hon. Peter Dunne MP, was unable to attend (as it was election night!). The main club awards were handed over by the Club Captain, David Wright.

The following club events were also mentioned during the presentation ceremony:

Obituary (February 2005) - Shane Ohlen (as referred to above). A memorial cup was presented following a speech made by former team-mate Hayden Dearlove from the Division 10 Sinners team.

Obituary (June 2005) - Pat Kelly. Father of long-time club member Therese Lloyd and father-in-law of club life member Colin Lloyd. Pat Kelly was a past chairman of Newlands Soccer Club and the first chairman of the Wellington Womens Soccer Association. The Kelly Cup, played for by women club teams in Wellington since 1973, is named after Pat.

Chatham Cup win over the cup holders Miramar Rangers (May 2005). 2nd round 3-2 victory at Alex Moore Park. First time ever that the club had played the current cup holders, so to beat them was an historic club event. Speech made by assistant coach Garry Hepburn and club president Grant Shields. A montage of photos and news articles has been framed on the clubroom wall.

Club Award, Roz Wallace (August 2005). As assistant coach of the NZ Women Universities team which finished 9th of 12 teams at the World University Games in Turkey. (Roz was not present but a certificate awarded to her in recognition of this achievement)

Community Award (August 2005) made to life member Colin Lloyd. Presentation at the North Wellington Volunteer Awards (as for life member Don Stone in 2004) made to Colin Lloyd by local MP (and club patron) Peter Dunne. Recognition of Colin's efforts in the club administration over many years.

Individual achievements in 2005.
Nigel Piper - 200 league games for Mens Premier team, only 3rd player to achieve this for the club.
Matt Cantwell, Mens Masters 1, 100 goals for the club in only his 5th season.
Shelley Tildesley, Womens Div 2, made her 300th appearance for club.


'State of Origin' (September 2005). Social club game played on 10 September with presentation made to winning captain Jackie Kuiti from 'Town' team. 'Town' 4 'Country' 0.

Annual General Meeting - due to held at Clubrooms on Wednesday 16th November at 7.30pm. All club members urged to attend.

The Clubrooms were again decorated courtesy of Gavin Underhill (and the New Zealand Ballet company) with the theme being 'Good and Evil'. Lighting was provided courtesy of Michael Underhill.
Attendance during the evening was around 88 people.
