Club Photos

(Early club history days: Johnson Villa club - 1950's)
Photos & comments provided by ex-club member George Fisher (now residing in Scotland) to North Wellington AFC (in August 2007)

Back row: (left to right) The two players at either end were brothers, names not remembered. The goalkeeper in the dark sweater was Bob Graves and was the number one keeper, to Bob's right is Ron Moulder, reserve goalkeeper (Ron was also drummer for the Wellington Pipe Band). To Bob's left is Lowry, I have forgotten the first name. The names of the remainder of the back row have also been forgotten.
Front row: (left to right) On the extreme left is Jack (can't remember surname. He had been a prisoner of the Japanese in Java during World War II, and had gone through a bad time at their hands). Next to Jack is a chap called Greenfield and next to him is the team captain whose surname was, if I remember correctly, Jackson. Next to the captain is myself (George Fisher) with another unknown player on my left.

Comments: This photo was taken at Porirua (now Kenepuru) Hospital. The man in the hat was an ever-present but unfortunately his name too has gone. I do remember that we often went to his place after games for refreshments. Jack Thomson, who was the one who had written to Aston Villa in the first place for liberty to call the club after them is the lone one in the middle row. Only nine of us had turned up to play so Jack drafted himself into the team to help make up the numbers. I (George Fisher) am second from the right-hand side lower rank and apart from young Ron Moulder (goalkeeper - back row) I cannot recall any other names here.

Comments: I (George Fisher) was the captain of the second team for a while as in this picture. Jack Thomson is in the raincoat at the extreme left. Apart from Jack, the man in the hat and Ron Moulder (goalkeeper - back row) I draw another blank for names. Nor can I remember what the trophy was for.

Comments: Photo taken at Khandallah (Nairnville Park) where you see me (George Fisher) having a pot at goal.

Comments: Photo taken at Khandallah (Nairnville Park, looking southwards with Mysore Street beyond 1st row of housing).

Comments: This photo is of myself (George Fisher) aged about 28.

North Wellington AFC thanks ex-club member George Fisher (now residing in Glasgow, Scotland) for providing the above photos and comments on our club history. (Additional comments noted in italics)
North Wellington AFC was formed in 1972 - an amalgamation of Johnson Villa (est. 1951) & Onslow (est. 1934) clubs.
