Men's Teams - News (For the 2008 season)

Pre-season training for the 2008 league season for the Men's Premier and Reserve teams - details are:


The first pre-season games for the 2 teams (Premier and Reserve) will be in the Hilton Petone tournament which commences from Saturday 17th February 2008.
The league season will commence in early April 2008 and will conclude in mid-August 2008.

The league season for Men's Premier (Capital One), Reserve (Capital Three) and all other men's teams will commence on Saturday 5th April 2008.

Training: Pre-season training for the 2008 league season for the Men's Premier and Reserve teams - details are:
At Newlands College (top field, behind Newlands Intermediate), Bracken St., Newlands. (From Sunday 20th January 2008, 2pm to 3.30pm, then from Thursday 24th January 2008, 6.30pm to 8pm, and every Sunday & Thursday through January & February 2008.
From 6pm to 8pm, Sunday 2nd March 2008 (and every Sunday through March 2008)
From 6pm to 8pm, Sunday 9th March 2008 (and every Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday through March 2008)
From Tuesday 25th March 2008, training will be held at Alex Moore Park (top field), Johnsonville (every Tuesday & Thursday, from 6pm).
All current and intending players are welcome to attend training.

Latest News:
The 2008 league season commenced on Saturday 5th April. The Premier team is in the Capital One league, at the conclusion of the 18-game season they finished in 3rd place of 10 teams (10 wins, 4 draws, 4 losses). They lost 1-0 away against University in the qualifying round of the Chatham Cup.

At the conclusion of the 18-game 2007 season, the Premier team finished in 6th place of the 10 teams in the Capital One league.

Latest News: The 2008 league season commenced on Saturday 29th March. After 12 games of the 18-game season in the Capital Four league they are in 3rd place of 10 teams. David Wright made his 300th appearance for this team in their 3rd game this season on Saturday 12th April against Waterside Cougars at Benburn Park to become the 3rd player to achieve this feat for this team (along with Tony Davies and David Cocker).
In 2007 the league season commenced on Saturday 7th April, after 18 games of the 18-game season they finished in 5th place of the 10 teams.

Latest News: The 2008 league season commenced on Sunday 6th April. After 13 games of the 16-game season in the Womens Premier league they are in 2nd place of 9 teams.
The re-organisation of the Womens Central & Capital leagues resulted in a Wellington Womens Premier league being created (of 10 teams, however University B withdrew to leave 9 teams) - formed mostly of teams from the Womens One division in the 2007 season. The coach for the 2008 season is David Wright. (David coached the team in the 2005-2007 seasons)
From Wednesday 2nd April 2008 training will be held at Alex Moore Park (middle field), Johnsonville. From 6.15pm every Wednesday thereafter.

In 2007 the Women's Premier team finished in 7th place of the 8th teams in the Womens One league. In the local knock-out Kelly Cup they lost 3-2 to Miramar Rangers in the semi-finals.

This team played in the Womens Division 4 league in the 2007 season. The leagues were re-organised in the 2008 season.
In 2007 the league season commenced on Sunday 15th April, after 12 games of the 12-game season they finished in 1st place of the 13 teams in Womens Division 4.
In their final game on Sunday 29th July they defeated Paekakariki 2-1 to win their league by 1 point (over Paekakariki).

Junior Players - Information for the 2008 playing season (Updated on 3rd February 2008)

Junior (for players aged 5 to 16 years of age) football (soccer) in our area is administered by our 2 affiliated junior clubs:

North Wellington Junior Football Club (suited best for residents of the suburbs of Johnsonville, Grenada, Newlands, Paparangi and Churton Park).

Registrations for the 2008 season - preference given to players registered before Wednesday 20th February 2008.
Registration held at the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip Street, Johnsonville on Saturday 16th February 2008 (11am-2pm) & Wednesday 20th February 2008 (6pm-8pm).
Information for North Wellington Junior Football Club - (Contact : Jill Blackmore (home phone 477-0960).
The 2008 season will commence in mid-April.


Onslow Junior Football Club (suited best for residents of the suburbs of Thorndon, Wadestown, Wilton, Chartwell, Crofton Downs, Broadmeadows, Khandallah and Ngaio).

Registrations for the 2008 season - preference given to players registered before Sunday 17th February 2008.
Registration can be done online before 17th February 2008 (website link above) or at the Ngaio Town Hall on Sunday 17th February 2008 (7.30pm-8.30pm).

The 2008 season will commence in mid-April.


Local colleges (for players aged 13 to 17 years of age)
Onslow College, Burma Road, Johnsonville (phone 478-8189).
Newlands College, 50 Bracken Road, Newlands (phone 473-4136).
These 2 colleges (for students aged 13 to 17 years of age) situated in our playing region area enjoy a close relationship with North Wellington AFC.
They separately field teams in local college competitions which play from late April to mid August each year.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions for the 2008 playing season (Updated 27th February 2008, Latest update 27th March)
This was set at the Committee meeting held on Wednesday 27th February 2008. (2007 playing season subscription amounts listed below)
For the 2008 season subscriptions (per team, except for the Mens Premier and Womens Premier teams) are $2,500 - payable by Wednesday 30th April 2008. If paid on or before Sunday 13th April 2008 then $2,350.
For non-playing members, the 2008 subscription is $20 (per person).
The league season commences on Saturday 5th April 2008.

Club Events for the 2008 playing season (last updated 10th August 2008)


Dates for the 2008 Club Events are:

Annual Prizegiving/End of Season function.
This function is to be held at the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip Street, Johnsonville on Saturday 13th September 2008.
Tickets will be $15 per person (available at the door on the night).
Dress theme for the function will be for each team to dress in their own 'Team theme' (e.g. Phoenix, All Blacks, etc.)
This function will commence from 6.30pm onwards. 'Happy-Hour' until 7.30pm.
Prizegiving will commence around 8pm. Former Club President & Life Member Grant Shields will preside over the prizegiving.
A light supper will be served later in the evening.
At the conclusion of the prizegiving, around 10pm, a DJ has been arranged. Also SKY TV will be on for the rugby (Australia - All Blacks, Brisbane).

Club Day (the Club's end-of-season club day organised by the Committee) - Saturday 6th September 2008.
This was held on Saturday 6th September 2008. Players who registered for this event participated. Kick-off was at 2.30pm, Alex Moore Park No. 1 ground.
'State of Origin' event - teams were selected by birthplace (Town v Country) for club members of North Wellington AFC.
Reserve day for this event was Sunday 7th September, 2pm.
(Final score - 'Town' 0 'Country' 3), 3rd straight win for 'Country'
Registration for this event by Club Members was required by 9pm, Wednesday 3rd September 2008.

"Old-Timers" Day - club event (Updated 26th August 2008)
This event was held at Alex Moore Park and the Clubrooms on Saturday 23rd August 2008
The club had send out invitations to club life members and ex-committee members of North Wellington AFC. All ex-club members were welcome to attend.
A special match programme was produced for this event, the final Men's Premier league game of the 2008 season (v Wainuiomata, Alex Moore Park, kick-off 2.30pm) and to the Clubrooms afterwards (4.15-6pm).
The organiser for this event was committee member Warwick Smith (phone 477-6197 home).

Quiz Night & Raffle - fundraising event - (Updated 16th August 2008)
This event was held on Saturday 16th August 2008, from 7pm, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
Quiz details - as with the 2007 event, there were 8 rounds of questions with 2 being 'double-point' rounds.
Each team consisted of 4-6 people. Team entry of $10 per person ($5 for quiz & $5 for raffle). Teams selected their own names (subject to organisers approval).
Spot prizes are to be awarded on the night. There were 13 teams entered in total for this event. Cash bar was open.
The organisers for this event were committee member Michael O'Connor (phone 477-3939 home) and the Men's Premier team.

Texas Hold'em (Poker) - fundraising event (Updated 10th August 2008)
This event was held again on Saturday 9th August 2008, from 7pm, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
The entry fee remained at $20 per person. 33 people registered and participated in this event from 7pm-11.15pm. At the final table, around 11.15pm, Paul Waters (Capital 14b team) was the winner, David Wright was in 2nd place)
The organiser for this event was committee member Shona MacKay (phone 568-3939 work).

This event was first held this year on Saturday 10th May 2008, from 7pm, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
(59 players attended this event. At the final table, around 11.30pm, club member Bill Mullis was the final winner)
(Registration for this event was listed at the Clubrooms bar. Cost per person was $20 (payable on the night))
Cash prizes were awarded to the top players, spot prizes were also awarded. Light supper was served around 9.30pm.
The event was restricted to a maximum 64 people (8 players per table with 8 tables), however may be increased if demand is sufficient.

Movie Night - fundraising event (Updated 25th June 2008)
This event will not be held in 2008. As advised to the committee by organiser Michael O'Connor.
A raffle will be held on Quiz Night (16th August) in place of this fundraising event.

'Batons-Up' - fundraising event - (Updated 24th July 2008)
This event will be held on Saturday 26th July 2008, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
From 7pm. This is a raffle-type event, 200 tickets at $20 each, 30 prizes from $25 to $500 (prize pool total of $1,850).
Tickets will be distributed to team contacts over the weekend of 28th/29th June. All tickets are to be sold.
Tickets must be at the event in order to win. Once drawn a ticket number will be removed from the remaining draw (so ticket number can only win once).
Raffle draw to commence from 8.30pm. Light supper will be served at 9.45pm. TV screening (on big screen) of rugby (All Blacks v Australia) from 10pm.

Telecom phonebooks (Northern Wellington booklets) - fundraising event (Updated 24th April 2008)

This was done on Wednesday 9th April 2008. From 5pm to 8.30pm. (Thanks to the 30 club members who assisted)

Delivery - from the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
This was done over the weekend of Saturday 12th/Sunday 13th April 2008, from 9.15am until 1pm. (Thanks to those club members from 7 of our 18 teams who assisted)
The delivery work (only half complete on 12th/13th April) was completed on Saturday 19th/Sunday 20th April 2008.
The delivery area will be from Churton Park (north), Raroa, Johnsonville and Broadmeadows (south) & Paparangi/Newlands/Grenada & Ohariu Valley.
Club Members were asked to support this fundraising event (Details were advised to Team Managers). Thanks are due to significant efforts contributed by David Wright, Jackie Kuiti and Phil Sale.

Golf Day - fundraising event for the 2008 season (Updated 23rd February & 19th March)
As at 19th March 2008 - this event was fully booked. No more registrations possible.
This event was held at the Wainuiomata Golf Club, Wainuiomata Coast Road on Friday 28th March 2008. From 10.15am with "Shot-gun" start at 11am. Entry cost per team (of 4 players) was $160.

Annual Prizegiving/End of Season function.
This function was held at the Clubrooms, 50 Phillip Street, Johnsonville on Saturday 8th September 2007.
Tickets were $15 per person (available at the door on the night). Function commenced from 7pm onwards.
Dress theme for the function was 'Loud shirts'. Dress was optional in this theme.
A light supper was be served during this function. Former Club President Grant Shields presided over the prizegiving.
At the conclusion of the prizegiving, around 9pm, a DJ provided music for the remainder of the evening.

Club Day (the Club's end-of-season club day organised by the Committee) - was held on 1st September 2007.
For the 2007 event, this was held at Alex Moore Park, Saturday 1st September 2007. Kick-off at 2pm. (Final score - 'Town' 3 'Country' 5)
Registration was required for Club Members by 30th August 2007. Details of the 2007 event can be found at State of Origin 2007.

Texas Hold'em (Poker) - fundraising event - was held on Saturday 4th August 2007, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
44 people attended. After 4 hours of play, the final table was down to 2 players (Steven Lynd, Capital 4) & Mandy Mitchell (ex-Womens Division 4). Steven Lynd was the winner.
From 7pm sit-down (play started around 7.20pm). Cost of $20 per person to enter, 8 players per table (8 tables). Cash prizes were awarded to top players, spot prizes as well. Light supper was served during event.
The rules for this event were posted on the Clubroom wall (south side near the fireplace). Also prior to the event starting the rules and play were explained.
There was a maximum of 64 people able to register for this event.

Quiz Night - fundraising event - (Postponed from Saturday 19th May 2007 to Saturday 14th July 2007, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.)
Quiz results - 8 teams took part. Winner was "Joyous State" with 71 points. There were 8 rounds of questions with 2 being 'double-point' rounds.
Start time of 7pm. Each team had 4-6 people. Team entry of $5 per person. Teams to select their own names (subject to organisers approval).
Spot prizes were awarded on the night. Light supper was served during evening (included in ticket price). Cash bar was open.
(This event was to be held on Saturday 19th May 2007, however was postponed to Saturday 14th July 2007)

This event was last held at Wainuiomata Golf Club, Wainuiomata Coast Road on Friday 3rd November 2006.
Committee member Michael O'Connor is the Club contact who liaised with the 2005 & 2006 event organiser Peter Roberts (Mens Masters 1 team) on the golf day.

Movie Night - fundraising event - held on Sunday 10th June 2007.
This event was held at Hoyts, Manners Mall, Wellington, doors were open from 6pm (movie screened from 6.30pm). The movie will be "Shrek 3".
Tickets were $15 for adults and $10 for children. Discount confectionery tickets of $2 each to be purchased along with tickets (prior to event).
Tickets were to be purchased prior to this event being held. No ticket sales on the night.

'Batons-Up' - fundraising event - was held on Saturday 30th June 2007, Clubrooms, 50 Phillip St., Johnsonville.
From 7pm. This is a raffle-type event, 200 tickets at $20 each, 30 prizes from $25 to $500 (prize pool total of $1,850).
Raffle draw commenced from 8.30pm. Light supper was served. TV screening of rugby (All Blacks 15 Australia 20) from 10pm.

    Tickets were $15 per person (available at the door on the night). Function commenced from 6.30pm onwards.
    Dress theme for the function was 'Team theme' (e.g 'Phoenix'). Dress optional in this theme.
    A light supper was served during this function. Life Member Grant Shields conducted the prizegiving. An address on the club was provided by the Chairman, Warwick Smith.
    At the conclusion of the prizegiving, around 9.30pm, a DJ provided music for the remainder of the evening. Attendance was 134 people.
